brindle brundage

Brindle Brundage is a second year Scenic Design MFA candidate at the University of Idaho. She is originally from Saint George, Utah, where she spent most of her life developing a passion for theatre and the arts. Her skills as a fine arts painter opened the door to her education and work as a scenic charge and designer for theatre. Photography was one skill she had yet dived into, and with this class she has had a lot of fun experimenting and learning how to compose thought provoking compositions. Brindle hopes to continue to learn more techniques throughout the arts.

I found portrait photography to be very complex. Before this class, I have only painted portraits of people, using models that were staged for me, or a myriad of online references. Thankfully I was able to work with my very kind and fun friends that were open to whatever I wanted to try. The original intent, as seen in the first three images was a dark fantasy aesthetic. However, I ran into complications with lighting and exposure and had to call the shoot short. Later, I figured out what was wrong and had a chance to develop my original idea into a dark dream with twinkle lights and LEDS. There I played with the contrast of shadows, and how limited light provides a mysterious intent with my subjects.

I’ve always understood animals and art way more than people. That is why in this project, I wanted to capture the unique companionship between each owner and pet. Due to this pandemic, my more intimate shots are between my husband and our dog, Salem. The others were candid captures of strangers on walking around main street. Even though I do not know these people, I am satisfied with the result, for in many I feel I caught the distinctive adoration between each relationship.

Fall is one of my favorite times of year. In this project, I thoroughly enjoyed capturing the texture of the trees, the endless depth of the horizon, and most importantly the colors. All these photos except for two, were captured near Sandpoint, Idaho. The other two were taken near Moscow, Idaho.
