Nate wheatley

Nate Wheatley is a lighting designer that has collaborated with some of America's most sought after directors.  Mr. Wheatley has enjoyed repeat engagements with companies such as the Des Moines Metro Opera, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Opera Steamboat, Kansas University Opera, Louisiana State University Opera, Baylor Opera, and the Sugar Creek Symphony & Song.

As a photographer, Nate’s approach to the medium coincides with his interests in lighting.  Heightening drama and enhancing the mood by augmenting reality with color.  Drawing on inspiration from leading American photographers like Gregory Crewdson and George Tice, Nate likes to explore alternate but parallel realities in nature.

portrait / INTENSITY

This collection deals with the direction and intensity of not only the sun, but in the relationship of the subject and the camera.  The relationship of the subject and the camera can increase in intensity with the acknowledgement of the camera itself.

landscape /  CREST

Above a valley, these photos explore the vantage points above and into the Ohio Valley.  The exaggeration of color pairs with the vantage points to enhance the majesty of the Midwest landscape and the glory of the Ohio Valley moving into the fall season.
