portrait

For this project I really wanted to work on capturing a headshot.  Not just because it was the assignment, but because this talent can be used in so many different ways.  It was really important to me to capture the personality of my dear friend who volunteered to model for me.  I learned so much for this first headshot photo shoot.  I hope you can see her warmth, attitude, joy, and love for what she does!

This project is intitled “Through the Eyes of a Child”.  It was my goal to try and either use or retake photos that my 5-year-old nephew used.  He was so excited, more about the prospect of using a camera and the number of photos he could actually get, than actually creating or capturing a specific style or figure.  He and I went around my family cabin and I watched as he took photos.  I guided him for a while and asked questions when he would stop and gaze at some small piece of nature.  I would then try and take a photo of what he was seeing.  When I felt like I had done all I could to capture his sight, I handed the camera over to him.  These photos are a result of that process.  I spent countless hours editing his, and my, photos and weeding through the almost 3000 photos that were taken.

landscape

Narrowing landscapes down was very difficult for me.  I began taking my camera everywhere I went for several months.  I was snapping photos all of the time.  Living in Colorado gives one many opportunities to get wonderful landscapes.  I also began to look at the world in a different way…  So, I took pictures of the clouds, and of my roses, and the little Gnomes in my yard.  And the following is what happened.
These photos are works of art that I just really loved taking and editing.  From the flame to the grasshopper (who I named jiminy) that lived on my table work weeks and weeks.  So long that I started leaving leaves on the table, so he didn’t dye.  It was just fun to see my artistic eye, and what came of me actually trying to really think about the photos and take them accordingly.  I am not really trying to say anything in particular.  I just see a lot of beauty and joy around me and hope that I am able to capture that.
